He can dip his headlights but what about his teeth ?

Used cars Mike Brewer????
The Man In The Trilby, surely?
And we'd better fit Richard Hammond in before PG throws a tantrum.
|
Come on guys, it's our programme:
Motorbikes, F1, MotoGP and Ferraris = me!
What do you want to cover?
|
Well i think that is about time that TG and 5thGear were banned for ever!
Utter rubbish and totally immature,by all means have a feature on fast luxury cars, but we are not all David Beckham.
Lets have a sensible practical motoring programme that looks at the real motorists and vehicles and allied features.
Look at German TV motoring programmes which feature cars in detail, from size, mpg, practicality etc etc and driving correctly and safe, not like these idiots on TG,it needs to be in the real world.
I am not a killjoy and I am anti speed camera etc but TG needs to grow up and learn a lesson from German TV and I am happy that it is now offair.
I am sure that TG has encouraged reckless driving ways.

How utterly boring...:-)
Do you think this forum would get so many posters if it touched ever so gently on every day motoring aspects?

Oh dear. Anything else you want banned while you're at it? Disagreeing with you? Freedom of speech?
And do you honestly believe that there are people out there who drove perfectly sedately until they saw Top Gear, and then suddenly turned into Bedlam causing road hogs?

Anything from the late lamented George Bishop (first? editor of Car, when it was - I think - Small Car)
The rest could be lifted from the Sniff Petrol site.

Yes, I'm sure thats why TG is sold to networks all around the world whereas German motoring TV is sold in... er Germany and... ummm... er....
If you wanty technical data, then read a technical journal.

Yes I agree with Stevecivic.
Bring back William Woolard and Chris Goffey. I miss the exciting incisive journalism of these guys. Now where is that bottle of paracetamol again?
Funny thing is, when programes ike that stopped, we stopped being sold junk like maestro's, and datsun cherry's. Wonder why that was?
|
thank you Renault family,I recall those Woolard and Goffy days, informative and sensible.
A few weeks ago on TG they had Clarkson driving to,I think Norway virtually "non-stop" and exhausted, what a foolish feature when we all know tiredness does kill, why can't they have sensible features.
I stand by believes with regards to TG it is utter rubbish encouraging all the wrong driving skills and standards with speed, which is all they seem to be concerned about--0 to 60 in 5 secs for example.
By the way I am not sad or "old" but have being safe driving for 28 years having passed the test at 17.
|
Hang on, lets put it into context , Topgear is simply entertainment not serious journalism.
|
I think we'll have a regular feature with Sabine Schmidt!
|
Oh, and used cars, Dom Littlewood!
|
I *think* the lovely Sabine works for an F1 travel company, so put it to her and see if she fancies a more permanent change of career. In the meantime, let´s hope she´s on TG every week...

I had doubts but how else would they film and you have to admit Clarkson did look pretty rough and tired.
I still stnad by beieves on TG-yes it pure entertaiment but not a motoring programme as such.
|
Just for a start, how would the film/video crew manage to get so many different shots of JC approaching them on fast continental roads?
Top Gear is light hearted, tongue in cheek, completely different to any other of this type of programme and, most of all, very entertaining.
It must strike a lot of chords otherwise we wouldn't be discussing it at such length...:-)

I am surprised at the reaction all seem in favour of TG and its rubbish junk content.
I shall be in Germany tomorrow and will enjoy their sensible motoring programmes which are 100% better than TG and lets say for the realistic person.
TG still is in mine and many others I know a programme which does not deserve the title of a motoring programme.
Surely there are more out there of the same opinion.
|
Steve - sit down - take a drink - I have some news for you.
TOP GEAR IS NOT A MOTORING PROGRAM.
Top gear is an ENTERTAINMENT program, with a car theme.
Look at the ratings, its BBC2's top watched program.
Million and millions of people do not agree with you
|
RFM, I agree with that and I've no problem with your opinion of my nominmations. I'd like to see better nominations, I don't claim to know it all, and I respect SteveCivics view too - it would be nice to see if my legs will fit in the back (without surgery) of whatever it is they're testing.
Why, in the name of creating a programme with variation and interest has no one mentioned (and I'm not implying I have any interest in any of these); bikes (duck now), fuel economy runs, car design, interviews with Chief constables, new technology, new engines, tests of toys - satnav etc, lawnmower racing (why not ?), what's going on in other countries, sneak previews of new cars, motor shows, fix some poor devil's persistent problem, embarrass manufacturers /dealers with a horror story (hmm, sounds too much like Watchdog - blah !), but please - no reader's letters.
And what's HJ going to do on the show ?
John

Racing lawn mowers? TG did it in the first series.
Sat Nav? Brewer did that (very badly) on Driven two weeks ago
Talking of Driven, its the only "normal" motoring show on TV, and does anyone on here watch it? comment about it?
No?
|
Stevecivic, you can´t be talking about the german Automagazine programme on DSF can you? Watching paint dry etc etc... Give me the opinionated, ludicrous and often hit-and-miss TG any day. At least it falls under ´entertainment´....
|
No its not that silly dsf one-I can not recall the names however is on zdf and sat1 --I am there later today for a few days so hopefully will catch the programme and compare fully.
Ok ok TG is pure entertainment as per Renaultfamily and can not compare to a pure motoring programme, agree Driven is good and another one is Pulling Power(not bad).
You can see that the BBC is out for ratings with TG.
I rest my case! and now drive to Dover for 17.00 ferry to Dunkerque and then tomorrow Germany!
|
Sorry - Its not driven - Its "pulling power" shown last night at 11:40.
It is pure tedium. Mike Rutherford driving a (bog standard) Mitsubishi Lancer.
