My first road rally tonight! - Dave
I've given up navigating due to sickness (of the motion variety).

Tonight I test the Rover in a 12 car...

Try to keep in on the black stuff between the trees, david.
Have fun - and we want a full report tomorrow!
(Is wishing you "good luck" actually bad luck in rallying circles?)
:)

Ian - Best response to this is "Thanks, but I actually I rely on skill"!

Dave - whether you rely on good luck, skill, or a mixture of both, have fun and a good finish.

Re: My first road rally tonight! - Flat in Fifth
Dave, hope you get further than I did on my first 12 car, straight on at T, hmmm. Thankfully there was a ready made hole in the hedge.

No matter how good the road is being called from the left hand seat *you* are in control, *you have the power* to determine the end result. Even the best get caught by something not as map.

Take care, avoid the red mist, and remember, " To finish first, first you have to finish"

It would be interesting if some of you rally chaps gave us a clue as to the meaning of the various instructions we hear given to the driver by the navigator.

Can't remember an example at present but you know what I mean.

Know what I mean?

Dave! Dave!

Have you finished yet, did you not follow Ian andFlat in Fifth's good advice, or are you still doing something with that washing-up bowl (or should it be bowel?)?

My first road rally was also my last!
It was in '64, in Rhodesia, in my new Renault R8 Gordini (1300cc, 105bhp, 750kg!), and it was the last rally before petrol rationing stopped them.
We were 'lucky' enough to win 1st Novice & I still have the nice big trophy -
no-one ever asked for it back!!
It wasn't about sheer speed, just ultra accurate timing, and as we were both Air Force navigators, it was not that difficult!
