Rover P5 - brake question - wally
Can anyone advise how to fit new parts to Disc brake calipers on a Rover 95?

Surely a 95 is a P4?

The 95 is a P4, however the front brakes were lifted from the P5 which was in production at the same time.

As this is brake work unless you are really competent you should buy new units ( i.e. if you have to ask how to do it, don?t! )

However through poverty I did this job about 25 years ago, so details a little sketchy. Try to get manual or parts diagram. Check bleed valve will undo; otherwise you will need new units anyway!

Remove calipers but don?t split them, pump pedal to push pistons out before disconnecting hose ( or use airline afterwards ).

Clean everything thoroughly especially grooves. If pistons rusty ( very likely ) you *should* replace them *not* clean them up with fine emery paper.

Fit new seals in calipers, lubricate with brake fluid & insert pistons. Fit dust seals to pistons & caliphers with the circular metal clips ( not easy, this is where you need diagram ) & push pistons back.

Refit calipers & bleed etc

Finally sell 95 & buy a proper P4 (up to 1959) with drum brakes, still stop on a sixpence
