Brake pad dust - BobbyG
My Scenic recently had squealing brakes and when I asked the dealer they said this is normal and is due to lack of asbestos etc and it is not covered by warranty (1 year old). They would strip them down but it would be chargeable.

I blasted them with my power hose and this seems to have made a bit of an impact for now.

My sister has the same problem with her C3, she has already had it in for the front drivers side to be stripped down and now the passenger side is doing the same, to the extent that I think the caliper is jamming as the wheel is heating up and car pulling to left. Again dealer is saying this is chargeable.

Should modern brake pads not by now have overcome this problem and surely some investment in research should produce a solution.

Or are the dealers quite happy getting money from unsuspecting people to do this, time after time?

I know you can buy spacers to stop the dust build up on alloy wheels but does this prevent the above problem as well?

Squealing is likely to be high frequency vibration of the pads in the caliper usually cured by careful application of suitable high temp copper grease.
