One of the most realistic car chases, without a doubt it Ronin.I'm not saying it's thebest but it is very realistic. A 406 probably does nothing to dispell this!
As to what the best one is. That's a tough one. So many films have good car chases in. The Bourne Identity/Supremacy (but not long enough), Tomorrow Never Dies (not exactly around a city but a good chase nonetheless, and - it's just come to me.
The Peacemaker.
If you like car chases and you haven't seen this film, watch it.

The classic car chase was on CHiPs a few weeks ago. Our two heros were hot on the tail of a couple of weirdos on the freeway. Anyway, chummy takes his foot of the gas and the throttle's stuck open. He presses the brake, and the brakes have gone too! Then he exclaims "There's something wrong with the steering!" The car then starts careering about the road, barging into vehicles on the other lanes and sending them into uncontrollable spins, which invariably ended up with them going through the barriers and up the bank. Chummy's cohort then shouts "Turn the ignition off!" Now you'll never believe this, but the switch is jammed and they can't stop the thing.
This goes on for about five minutes, with upwards of twenty cars wrecked, and occasional cuts back to our persuing duo who are managing a normal conversation from bike to bike at chase speed, there shirt sleeves not even flapping in the breeze. They then lose sight of the crims, and as suddenly as the systems on their car packed up, they start to function again. The throttle unsticks, the brakes work and the steering rights itself. When they stop, even the jammed ignition switch frees.
I had unfortunately cancelled my Sky subscription earlier, and just as one of those leggy supermodels who eschew fame and fortune for a career with the California Highway Patrol came into shot, I was cut off! I wish I had the thing on tape, the producers of Bullit and The Italian job must have been green with envy when they saw how it should be done.

I'll finish the story Tom.
After all that had happened, they're back on the highway. Some bloke has a heart attack, 15+ cars somehow manage to career over him whilst rolling and then they're at Jon's apartment. Ponch helps some hard done by kid who's Mum is as usual, surprisingly attractive for someone who has no money, lives in a trailer park and mothers 7 kids.
Ponch goes out with her, there are a few more crashes, they get told off by Sergeant Getraer and then they realise someone cocked up somewhere - End Credits with them all laughing at their foolish mistake.
And who says Bravo is a waste of money?

Surely the original Italian Job must get a mention for good car chase?

As well as Gone in 60 seconds - (the Nicolas Cage version)

Watched 2F2F last night on TV -- frankly thought it was a load of rubbish. No acting to be seen and not a plot to be divined.
