I walked into a local supermarket (Edeka) and saw a Punto taking pride of place .0% finance 6 speed box, clima, electric everything.for 5000ukp or lease for 100ukp a month including tax insurance and all servicing.Rover 75 under 10000ukp and fully loaded mondeo estates for 11900ukp.They have removed Daewoos because they cannot find anywhere to get them serviced or repaired

Let's all hope this anticipates the EC removal of "block exemption" so that everyone can buy or sell new cars on a level playing field. Servicing costs may rise slightly, but if this is freed up too then we'll all be much better off at the expense of the monopolists and rip-off merchants.

Sounds great, the only problem could be with servicing/warranty work and i guess p/xs would not be wanted,i mean you never expect to chop in your old dishwasher/TV/bathroom on a new one,so providing you find a home for your old scrap or just lease the new car like happens in the US then much less of a problem.

I do hope that the playing field allows for specialist dealers to continue, and that the public is prepared to pay a wee bit more to get the service. I have spent many years in sales up till 1994, and think the customers got a good deal. We at least had a fair bit of product knowledge of our own cars, and good and bad points of competitors too. If you ask the technical spec of white goods or electricals, (TV, Stereo etc), the sales people do not have a clue.!
Experts would be comfortable to buy purely on price from anywhere, so a car could be bought by them in a vending machine.
Now there's a thought.........could make a mint......tap in credit card details, press B9 and bingo..

Mike

What about test drives ?
Most of the big car supermarkets will give you peanuts for your part exchange because there not retailing older cars just sending them to auction/trade.
The old way of getting a good deal will still apply -- sell your car privately then buy your new car with cash.
