This was my two-penn'orth@
"There's a great deal of self-righteousness being aired here.
A serious problem with speed cameras is that they have no common-sense.
It's not speed that kills, it is inappropriate speed.
We'd be better off spending the money on improved driver training, and, possibly, regular testing. There are too many drivers who are not safe to be let loose in today's traffic, for both physical and psychological reasons.
A driving licence should be nearly as hard to get, and keep, as a pilot's"

Well guys: I posted a response at lunchtime, as did rogerb
Neither have been published.
Probably explains why the the anti-car crowd feel justified in posting contributions such as this on pro-car forums:
> I think the anti-speed camera lobby are losing that debate...
> However, there are 2 possibilites:
> 1) Everyone who contributes to the BBC is a raving Commie, and they're in bed with Big Tone. Hence the BBC debate shows more pro-camera comments.
> 2) Everyone who contributes to this forum wants to be able to drive everywhere, park anywhere, drive as fast as they like and have no restrictions. [totally untrue] Hence the "It's Your Duty" forum shows more anti-camera comments.
> I wonder which one is true?
And why we will soon have blanket 20mph limits in urban areas (outside of 10mph home zones), 40mph rural limits (outside of 15mph village through routes), and 50mph motorway limits (the EU is already trying to get its 62 mph policy implemented).

I would suspect if you used the name of IO or independent observer, that that is the reason for them not including your views. They would probably like to know a proper name, otherwise most people would use amusing or offensive monikers, and the debate would just slide.

Thank you, but I didn't.
However most people, well, at least here, find the need to use "amusing or offensive monikers" when use my proper name.

As a regular contributor to BBC Talking Point, I find that it is remarkably difficult to get comments posted.
I would judge the success rate at about one in 25 or so. And that seems to apply whatever the subject.
They obviously get far more contributions than they are able to put up.
The Daily Telegraph Letters page is even harder, although I did get 2 in in one week a couple of months back, one of which was next to Lady Thatcher.

Thanks for the input Brian.
