Cheers for that Rustbucket - pity I didn't take my own advice about bearing it in mind!!!
Did you fix this yourself or did you put into dealer?

I found the loose bolts myself, as I have little confidence in garages these days.It took awhile to find the bolts that were giving the problem as they were the last ones to check. You need to get under the vehicle so if you have not a safe way of lifting the vehicle then you may have to take it to your dealer and explain what you suspect is the problem. You could try parking with each side of the vehicle in turn on a high curb for a little more clearence and scrabling under .The bolts that were loose on my Scenic were the ones approx under driver and front passenger footwell area.Hope this helps.

Rustbucket, many thanks for your help.
I took car into Renault dealer today and described the symptoms. I also gave him a printout of your "daiagnosis" and it turns out this was exactly the same in my car.
Service Manager advised that this was their first experience of this problem, but he kept my printout for his technicians, and was going to contact Renault with the information.
If there is a recall issued, its down to you Rustbucket!!
Power of the Backroom yet again.

When I was a kid I was always the one who got the blame.
Pleased to here that the outcome was satisfactory.

As per rules of the site, allowed to name where good service has been given - Reg Vardy in Livingston.
First time a Service Manager has ever thanked me for giving him a problem!
Incidentally, whilst waiting, had a look round the showroom. The Modus really is a mini Scenic but still very spacious inside with what looked like a clever rear seating arrangement. They also had a Grand Scenic but I wasn't too impressed with the way the middle seats folded out the way to get into the rear. Rear access would definitely be for kids IMO, and god help them if the middle seat fell on them as they were trying to get in!
