Good Service? - Billsboy
A work colleague has just had his Mitsubishi Outlander serviced and asked for my comments on the service sheet and invoice. What would you have said?

First Service, 9000miles, car 8 months old, Petrol/Gas fuels.
1, Service sheet is not ticked off in section for oil and filter change.
2. Total bill, £240.00. This includes, Air refresher assembly, £28.00, Castrol Oil £30.00, Labour £100.00, Petrol Treatment £10.00, Engine Flush £10.00, Brake de-dust £3.00, Superlube £4.00, Oil filter and drain plug gasket £7.00. Service kit and environment £7.00.
3. Tyre report states that spare is new. There is no spare, gas tank fills this space.
4. Interior bulb replaced, 10w on invoice, handbook says should be 8w.
5. Bill also includes £2.00 for screenwash, but it was full when he took the car in.
6. The service check list is dated 1996 to August 2001. The Outlander was not introduced until January this year.

I would be interested in your comments.

P.S. I have rounded all the items on the invoice to the nearest pound.

No. 3 would seal it for me.

That is someone taking the wossname.

For me the garage would never see the car again and would receive a letter setting out what your note set out, but perhaps more stroppily, officially, and with a request for a written response while I consider my next steps..

Thanks Mark, that's more or less what I told my colleague.

Some of the work that was done, does not ring true either. Unfortunately there is no service schedule provided with the vehicle, to show what a 9k mile service should consist of and another colleague, who has access to Autodata Manuals, advises that the car is too new to appear in these.
Would you replace the air-con filter at eight months for example, I think VW recommend two years on my car.

Agree about the spare tyre. However, if the service the fixed price type they'll have
included the cost of stuff like screenwash and itemised it even if it wasn't needed/done. If not a fixed price service then it looks like a rip off.

Surprised they used engine flush on a new engine too!
