Can anyone tell me how to check the difference between a 1600cc & 2000cc engine? On a Mitsubishi L300 Panel Van. The cylinder head is dismantled now. The present owner cant help. Mislayed his doc's. Moving house.
I'm told the pistons are the same size but the length of the stroke is different. Which doesnt help at all!

If the head is off surely the stroke is easily measured? Difference between the stroke of the two engines will be a few millimetres, so check with decent steel rule.
If you don't know the expected dimensions from a manual,
then capacity = 3.142 x bore dia. squared/4 x stroke x no. of cylinders
(all dimensions in cm)
If you use a decent rule, you should be able to get close enough to check a capacity difference of 1600 to 2000

Bob,
You should find an engine no./code stamped on the offside front of the block, near to the head gasket face.
The 1.6 is a type 4G32 and the 2.0 type 4G63.
Hope this helps,
David
