The passenger footwell on my brother-in-laws Golf is full of water.

We have 'hosed' it and it seems to be dripping in just past the door towrads the fron of the car.

Last weekend we took off the plastic trim that runs down the side of the wind screen and bodged some silicon type seal stuff where we thought it might be coming in but it is still leaking . The door seal appears to be sound.

Any ideas from experience please. It is 1.6 petrol I think and K Reg.

I had this problem once - it was well known that VW had a door membrane supplier whose products deteriorated over a period of time and eventually caused leaks into the floor well.

The local dealer replaced the offending membrane (plus the remainder) and the problem disappeared.

The only other possible cause I can think of is the pollen filter not having been replaced correctly at some time.

Leaks don't always come from where they seem to...:-)

Where is the pollen filter and what does it look like please?

I understand your comment about water not necessarily ingressing at the point where it 'outgresses' but you can actually see it dripping in as though it is entering behind say the indicator on the side of the wing.

I would check the plastic door membrane first. Not an uncommon problem on ageing VW's.

The air box can be found on the passenger side near the central console, unlock the sliding locks, remove the airbox cover, take the pollen filter out of the frame and check for leaks; replace with new filter if necessary (air flow is indicated on the filter and frame). Reassemble (with care)!
