Motoring on Playstation - Brill
Vaguely motoring related, and a little light relief from all the virus attacks, but MBRM delete if you think this is too 'product' biased...

I'm getting (albeit belatedly) a Playstation for the kids, and was wondering which car racing games the backroomers would suggest.

Of course I'll have to fully test drive anything before they're allowed out on the road. :o)

Thanks,
Stu.
Re: Motoring on Playstation - Tony Cooper
If you are getting a PS2 (and you should be, value for money, etc.) get GT3. It is absolutely brilliant. This has so many cars in it all with different characteristics you can play it for months.
If you or the kids have a violent streak (!) get Grand Theft Auto, latest version.
Enjoy!
Re: Motoring on Playstation - Dan J
I am hoping the TAS has listened to various hints and will be providing a copy of Grand Theft Auto 3 (PS2) for Christmas - Not entirely sure it's suitable for the kids though! I certainly wouldn't view it as an educational game :-)

Driver (PS) is an excellent game and is pretty cheap as well now I think too so that might be worth a shot!
Re: Motoring on Playstation - El Dingo (Martin)
I agree - but get a steering wheel. Trying to control the cars by buttons alone is tricky and takes away some of the fun (imho). A lesson for those daft car designers who want to replace the steering wheel with a joystick.
Re: Motoring on Playstation - Brill
''...  Enjoy! ''

Oh I intend to Tony!
Re: Motoring on Playstation - Lee H
If you mean the Playstation or PsOne (not the PS2), you could do much worse than

* Gran Turismo 2
Very cheap, hours & hours & hours of realistic driving and fun, but could be a bit tough for younger children to pass the driving tests.

* Colin McRae Rally
Well executed mud-em-up

* TOCA Touring cars 2
Very steep learning curve, but rewarding when mastered. You can smash up the cars too, which provides alternative entertainment.

Just make sure you fully test them....

Lee.
Re: Motoring on Playstation - markymarkn
Grand Tourismo 3 - a must
Grand Theft Auto 3 - quality funny game but over 18s rated (well 1 and 2 were)

Driver - old budget cheapie but still ok.

dont know if its out on the ps2 but i have a game on my pc called 'Insane' where you can drive 4x4s all over the place (yes theres a landrover DW), up hills streams etc, and you can select 2 wheel drive/4 wheel drive etc. quality game.
Re: Motoring on Playstation - Stuart B
and of course in addition to Colin McRae 2 you *have* asked Santa for a steering wheel and pedals,

sorry I am just a sad old git, but the Stratos makes a luvverly noise and they have got the polar moment of inertia just right.
Re: Motoring on Playstation - Brill
"steering wheel and pedals"

Ah, hadn't thought of that, cheers.
Re: Motoring on Playstation - Ian Bishop
Steering wheel, pedals and then the games Lee H suggests and you may never leave the computer....

Absolute Quality.
Re: Motoring on Playstation - Guy Lacey
I've never been into the Gran Turismo or such like but V-Rally and Colin McRae Rally have had me stuck to the settee for days. Absolutely fantastic.

(Not a driving game but Syphon Filter is also fantastic)
Re: Motoring on Playstation - Kev
I have for ps1, Colin Mcrae rally 2, gt1, gt2, Toca touring cars, Toca touring cars 2, Toca world touring cars, Driver and Driver 2.
O and that all inportant wheel and pedals.
I advise you, all of you, to get a ps1 [if you havent got 1] steering wheel, and Mcrae rally 2. You will not regret it. I cannot think of more fun you can have for the same mmount of money, just been playing it before Driven.
Kev,

P.S, sorry for being a Playstaion geek :-)
Re: Motoring on Playstation - Daniel
hello , i got the steeing wheels and pedals for my ps1 but if to hard to drive in Collin McRae 2 dont now if my steering wheel is not calibrate but i enjoy the game too much
example in Greece stage 1 my time is 3"01"53.....
kenia 2 with the Peugeuot 205T16 1"48"79 .....
if you have some records let me now just to compare
cheers
Daniel
Re: Motoring on Playstation - dan
All suggestions absolutely whizzer. I must give GTA3 a bash, 1 & 2 were dribble.
If you do end up with a PS1, ain't no shame in that, deleted to GT get Wipeout 2097. What could be more macho than having no wheels eh?

Re: Motoring on Playstation - David Moore
ANY of the gran turismo title. Very realistic, you need to complete progressively difficult licenses to be able to enter the higher races. Better cars are made ourchasable by winning races. Lots of.

If you get a playstation 2, get a package e.g. gt3, grand theft auto 2 and resident evil all for £250. Make sure the extra controller, memory card etc that you may want are included, the basic console just comes with a controller.

Finally if you want to hook it up to a hifi buy and optical cable for £10.

No wonder I have little left for the car..
