Oh no, you are unnecessarily cynical.

Think about this...

"Reducing your speed by an average of 1mph will cut accident frequency by 5 per cent."

So, I have decided that I'll drive 1mph slower. If I can persuade another 19 of you to join in with me, there won't be any more accidents, ever.

If I can only find a total of 10 people, then we'll just drive 2mph slower for the good of mankind in general.

I'm surprised we never tried this before.

Although it may be a little more complex than I believe. Maybe we need 20 volunteers within each measurement area, rather than just 20 for the whole country.

What a load of c**p. Stupid Statements deserve stupid responces.

Come-on Bogush, tear it to pieces, I know you wanna. I've set the ball rolling:

"Around two-thirds of all accidents where people are killed or injured happen on roads where the speed limit is 30mph or less."

- well make all the roads 40mph or higher.

"7 out of 10 drivers regularly break the speed limit on these roads - usually by about 5mph."

- 5mph give or take 5mph probably.

"Reducing your speed by an average of 1mph will cut accident frequency by 5 per cent."

- so i could do 40 through a 30 for 10 miles and as long as i did another 10 miles at 20mph i would reduce accidents by 5%. since i've never had an accident that means I should cause -ve accidents and save lives not kill them.

"It is not safer to drive faster at night"

-no kiddin einstien, its obvious its safer to drive slower than faster whatever time of day let alone in the night.

well the contact email is there for you to send to on the web site
Re: unscientific nonsense - Digsy
Not only that

Their math is atrocious

the 50mph stopping distance should be 16 car lengths, not 13.

Who on earth drives an average family salon? Is it a hairdressers car?

But at least they are being open about the speed cameras, they have published a map showing where they will be. Oops stupid me, locations are diagrammatical only!

Re: unscientific nonsense - ladas are cool
so i will be driving at about 25 in a thirty zone now, oops i forgot, i usually DO drive at 25 in a 30 zone.
Re: unscientific nonsense - ladas are cool
i will now be doing 10 mph in a 30 zone, but it might cause more accidents, because the traffic behind me will want to take more risks to get pass me.
Re: unscientific nonsense - dan
Talk about 86% of statistics are made up on the spot, check this statement:

"Statistics show the main cause of road crashes is the combination of inappropriate or excessive speed with some form of human error."

Aren't amost all crashes attributable to 'some form of human error'? This statement only excludes catastrophic vehicle failure as a cause. The statement is false in any case as it implies that inappropriate or excessive speed is a component factor in the main causes of road crashes.

This sort of stuff is written for people who want to read just that.

Re: unscientific nonsense - crazed idiot
ignores poor road design as a major contributing factor
Re: unscientific nonsense - dan
Ah,
but isn't poor road design also 'some form of human error'!? : )
