member of my family finally got round to getting rid of his galaxy tdi.
its a 51 late, 64k, full service history, new engine mounts, clutch and brakes and tyres - the works.
its the 1.9 hdi 90 lx - still has air con and elec windows.
he even had side airbag option put on to it.
placed it in the auto trader.
anyhow, long story short - he told me today, he has only had 1 offer of someone who rang up and said 9 k without seeing it. He declined.
however, priced at £9350 (price i gave him to advertise it at) - no one interested.
the miles are not much at all, very surprised no takers.
what do you reccomend?
he wants rid as he has another car coming soon - any ideas?
i would put it through the auction for him with are firms part ex's but i fear he would lose to much on it.

£9k was 97% of the asking price - I'd have taken that, no problems. Obviously they might have tried to negotiate down from there but it seems reasonable.
The problem is that, although the LX isn't a bad spec, it's not a popular one, and the 90 bhp engine isn't the one of choice when there are so many around with 115. It may be worth leaving that detail out of the ad. I also wouldn't mention the new engine mounts - it's not exactly as though the weight of the car shifts that much under hard acceleration - at least not with that engine.
Unless it's an awful colour I'd consider advertising at £8,995 - whcih is still the price of a new Picasso 1.6 LX (another fatal spec though!). Otherwise auction, eBay or a direct sale to a trade - there's a Galaxy specialist in Berkshire I believe - may be the only way.

I have to agree with David, was a mistake refusing £9k. You're going to be very lucky to find a buyer who doesn't haggle at all, and £9k seems the obvious price for them to aim at.

just picked up a copy of the trader - compared to the others on show - its one of the lowest mileage.
obviously 9k over the phone would have turned out to be 8.7k offer when they had picked out the little scratches and scuffs.
the price is also one of the lowest for the newer model.
just surprised by the lack of demand and interest - just 1 call!

A quick input of basic details into Parkers brings up:

It's an LX, that's probably the reason for the lack of interest.
IMHO people want the goodies on second hand motors, so for the Galaxy, they will want a Zetec or a Ghia. Most Galaxies sold are in Ghia and Zetec trim, especially the imports, which are almost exclusively Ghias it would appear.
At the most basic level, most driver appear to want alloys rather than plastic wheel trims!

"At the most basic level, most driver appear to want alloys rather than plastic wheel trims!"
...or they want 215 section tyres :-))
Could try advertising it on www.fordgalaxy.org.uk but as has been said, LX trim level makes it "the pits" cheapskate special. The Zetec has so much more kit for a few extra quid.

he is going to put it in at 8,600.
reckon it might go?

btw - this price is based upon a punter paying 7k plus buyers fee at brigehouse on mondsay for the same spec, a year older (x plate) with 104000 miles on the clock.
thing is - a zetec 115 tdi made £6,700 today on a W plate with only 74000 on it.
strange old world!
