My Ford 6006 CD changer doesn't seem to be working. When I press LOAD it says 'WAIT' for about 30 seconds and then says 'CD ERROR E3'.
Anyone got any ideas what the problem might be?
It's out of warranty, so any pointers as to what the fault might be would be useful. I'm reasonably competent with a screwdriver...
Thanks,
Tim

IIRC it means disc error.ie cannot be read.though it isnt always disc that causes it.possible the laser is dirty have you tried a lens cleaner and made sure the disc/s are clean.only takes fingerprint to cause it.?

Unfortunately, it won't even let me put a disc in (yes, there aren't any discs in there already), let alone one which is dirty, upside down, or anything else...

Got the same on my 6000. Put the cd in after great resistance, tries to read, makes a funny noise and ejects. A whole host of messages are displayed but more commonly are CD ERROR and CHECK DISC.
I know that doesn't help whatsoever but if you do go into Ford for a new one I will warn you they want £350.

These Ford Radio CD's regularly come up on Ebay for much less than the Ford price! Usually around the £100 mark, but sometimes less.
Might be worth having a look.

If I have a T reg Focus then with the old 6000 one in, would a 6006 fit?
Cheers

I know you said there are no cds in there but this is worth a try. Press and hold "EJECT" until the display says, "EJECT ALL" it will make some funny noises and maybe clear. I had a cd stuck in mine which I didn't know was in there and this worked (mine showed error 4 though).

The translation of a similar question by a Spanish owner reads:
Hello to all, the 6006 when giving him to load despue to be with wait on 20 seconds says to CD E3 ERROR to me, if with a taken care of CD and with without forcing you try to put it give it to you account of which there is like a top that lets it enter, as if on the inside a species of small door did not lower.
My question is for which it knows to open these equipment and that it opened it sometimes.
When opening it the mecanica is of facil access, I I believe that it is some piece that does not let it enter that when opening it podra with facility to put itself well.
Thank you very much to all
One of the hilariously translated answers gave one clue with regard to the size of the disks, or was it the width of the groove?
You\'ll find it here:

Use google to translate it originally.

Adski,
Yes you can replace the 6000 with a 6006 in a T-reg Focus, because I've just replaced the 4000 in my T-reg Focus with the 6006. It just involves unplugging 2 connectors and the aerial lead and plugging them back into the new unit. You can get the audio system removal tool from most car-related stores, like Motorworld or Halfords for around £2.

Thanks for your replies; I've managed to fix it! The solution seems to be on the same lines as Stuartli's translation.
I powered it with a 12V power supply on my kitchen table and watched the mechanism through the holes in the top. I measured the current consumption while doing this and found that the motor was apparently struggling to move a metal tray downwards. By poking a plastic drinking straw through the top of the case, I 'assisted' the tray in the downwards direction while the motor was trying to move it downwards. It then suddenly continued doing its whirring and clunking and reported no errors. It let me put in CDs and now seems to work fine.

Thanks a lot timp. I'm thinking I'm going to do a lot of EBAY browsing to buy one.
Thanks again
