or more accurately in conditions of "seriously reduced visibility" which are so rare that it makes one wonder why car makers fit them at all.
Use at any other time is a "moving traffic offence" which gives the Police good grounds to stop you and book you for that and anything else they may find ! (£30.00 is the going fixed penalty rate).

roger & Gwyn,
If you do the milage and in the places and times these conditions occur as I do £150.00 is a high but neccasary price to pay

Colleague at work was pulled over for illegally driving with front fog lights on last week! Made me smile! Getting seriously peeved with trying not to get distracted by them and distinguishing between people with front fogs on and motorbikes going passed them - illegally! I commute each day to work along a busy trunk road where bikes see fit to overtake in the centre of the road regardless of oncoming traffic and the general speed of the traffic - an accident waiting to happen?

I'm with Roger on this - the conditions have got to be really bad before they are any benefit, especially with the sharp cut-off of modern headlamps. I've used those on my car about twice in 4 years and 75k miles. Both of them have been smashed by stones, and frankly I'd never have missed them.
They seem to be a fashion accessory these days and a bloody annoying one at that!
Regards

I agree with Roger and Tim here,
Tim, I can't believethe riding styles adopted by some riders - my old instructor used to call this the meat in the the tin sandwich - if you think of that on a bike when overtaking between lines of cars (the A5 out of Wales and towards Shrewsbury springs to mind) it will put you off for life. I am lucky where I live with some fast A roads an excellent Dual Carriageway (except for some silly speed limits) accross N Wales (A55) so I don't encounter the tin sarnie scenario often.
I had a nasty bump in the Vectra a couple of years ago with an unisured rider - this resulted in me [aying to repair the thankfully minor cosmetic damage to the car - however had a nasty shock wehn I finally got the a broken fog lamp bracket fixed...........................Friendly Griffin Dealer charged me a 121.00 for the job,,,,,! and I never use them......!

Agree with you on the Welsh roads Gwyn, I was fortunate enough to live in Aberystwyth for four years where driving is actually fun! However now live nr Southampton and having to travel along motorways and dual carriageways where bikers believe it is wholly reasonable to drive between the 2nd and 3rd lane of traffic even when theres only one car in front of them! Don't fancy their chances if a car driver decides to move slightly to the edge of the lane!

Probably due to the fact that 97% of the traffic on the M27
uses lanes 2 & 3, completely ignoring the existance of lane 1.
Probably due to the higher than normal incidence of yatchies
in the Portsmouth & Soton area - too scared of getting close
to the bank :)
