A colleage of mine, having been to rally school yesterday, is full of the idea of buying a rally car.
A couple of years ago, when I too had money to waste (ha...), I would have pointed him to the small ads in Motoring News or C&CC.
It seems that C&CC isn't published any more, and I haven't seen Motoring News for a while either - where do they get advertised these days
p.s. - I suspect his budget is more likely to run to a MkII Escort than a Subaru :-)

I wouldn't imagine cars of this type come up for sale too often, so it might save him some time if he decided what he'd like and then contacted the various owners clubs to see what's available - the fringe benefit is that he'd have instant support for the car if he needed it :)

Cars and car conversions has changed it's name. Can't remember what it is called now but if you go into a newsagent you'll know just from looking at the cover :-) Track day something or racing something.
If he wouldn't mind an integrale then the evocorner forum (forums.delphiforums.com/evoforum/messages ) usually has the odd one come up in for sale. I did know where there was one for sale at Christmas (only 4k as it was rather a rough one) but it has already gone. A roughish 8v can usually be picked up for around £2k and another couple spent on sorting out wouldn't brake the bank and you should get a reasonably usable rally car. But he must remember you probably need around a grand per event to cover all the costs incurred eg damage, breakages, petrol and other unforseen things. Rallying on a small budget isn't so easy.

I have the odd trophy gathering dust in the garage, and a couple more that swmbo uses as vases, so I'm in prime position to expalin to him that buying a car is the cheap bit of competition.....

Motoring News is now called Motor Sport News and is published every Wednesday.
WH Smith sell it.
You'll find lots of rally cars for sale here.
|
Find a Nova GTe, rip out the soundsystem, tinted glass, 17" alloys and neon lighting, then build a rally car from that. Will beat most things cars for the money.
