Polo 1.6CL (100BHP) Burning Smell - kennybase
Hi Guys,

My Polo (P reg) has developed a slight burning smell when I'm in reverse.

The car had a new clutch put in Jan 2003.

Its going in to the garage on Wednesday for rear brake change, so I'll mention it to them then, but was hoping someone here might be able to suggest something.

Cheers in advance

Ben

The "slight burning smell" wouldn't be exhaust fumes that you're smelling, by chance?

Is it burnt oil? clutch? brakes that catch in reverse?

If oil; earlier, smaller Polos & golfs had (have increasingly) oil breather problems that in worst case cause oil to drip out of every pore, and onto hot bits of the engine. Engine then smells of burnt oil. Absolutely no idea whether this might be your problem - most of my advice seems to be horribly outdated...

Thanks for the replies. i've mentioned it to the garage so they'll look at it later on. I'm guessing the oil option is possible. Hopefully its not too serious!
