Peugeot 106 Brake Adjuster Cams Worn Out - howy686
Wifey's P106 tilts to the off-side (a bit like the wife herself)when the handbrake is applied on a down slope due to slipping rear brake adjusters on near-side. Of course it tilts the other way on an up-hill slope

It's because the serrations on the adjuster cams have stripped away.

Question is - can I get new adjuster parts without buying new shoes which are as new?

My gneral experience with Peugeot dealers is that they want to sell you 'half the car' to get the bits which you really need!!

In any case, the 'teeth' on the opposing cam, which you don't get with new shoes, has also started to wear.

I guess this is what can happen if you buy cheap pattern shoes - braking efficiency is fine but the adjuster cams must be soft metal.

New Bendix (genuine) shoes are cheap from German Swedish & French car parts. Pattern shoes have soft ratchet teeth as you have found. You might have to get the odd bit, at vast cost from PSA; the Bendix shoes come with the adjusters. Beware that the handbrake lever seizes in the trailing shoe web on this design - free off and apply hmp copper grease to the pivot.

When this happened on my sons 106, I had to buy a complete set of backplate fittings. It cost about £20.00.

Don't be tempted to try a ratchet that has sliped (on the brake shoe) on a new backplate fitting ratchet even if it looks O.K. as that will just slip again and damage the new backplate ratchet......as i found out at the cost of another £20.00. Kerching.

I have had no more problems since I fitted new on new.
