I ran out of diesel doh.
I am currently having problems priming the engine.
the fuel is up to the fuel pump but I cannot get it through the pump up to the injectors.
Do you just get the fuel to the pump and then keep turning over the engine or is there a way of getting it through the pump?
Cheers

I think the only way you're going to get diesel through the pump is to turn it on. Otherwise the inlet/outlet of the pump will be sealed off from each other, though obviously less viscous fluids (air) can get through.

Loosen each injector pipe nut, get someone to spin the engine over using starter, as fuel works its way up to the injectors and leaks from the undone joints, tighten. Each cylinder should fire as the nut is tightened. Be careful - high pressure involved.

Thanks for your reply's
What I actually did was,
the return pipes go to a connector that sits on top of the pump, I slackened this off, and the pump could then be primed, I then tightened the fitting and the engine fired up almost straight away.

The way I used to do mine after changing the fuel filter, was to switch on the ignition, then pump the plunger slowly when it goes hard for a couple of pumps, then start the engine after a couple of turns.
If you still have a problem starting then as already mentioned, undo your injector pipes and get someone to crank the engine till you see fuel coming out of your injector pipes.

Manually fill the filter with Diesel first.

Not so easy with the Lucas filters when its a cartridge type with a saucer type bowl, unlike canister type oil filters.
