I have a standard 2.5 TD engine (19J) in a Land Rover (1988) and was wondering how I might go about adding an intercooler. Is is just a case of getting one from a scrappy and plumbing it in? Of course the turbo boost would have to then be turned up to maximise performance, but do I need to fiddle with the injection pump to put more fuel in the cylinder, or is this done automatically?

Worth a look?

I have found companies offering this kind of thing before, but for £550 I may as well get a TDi engine anyway! Besides that, they dont seem to have anything for a TD...although these people do: www.allardturbosport.co.uk/pages/landrover_special...m
So it is obviously possible...but I dont really want to spend more than £50.

Cosworth intercoolers seem to make quite alot of money so go for an ic off something like a saab 9000 turbo. These can be bought cheaply on e-bay or try the breakers.
You can buy 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust pipe elbows from tyre/exhaust places and use bits of hose from the scrapyard to plumb it in.
Usually best to use an electric fan and move the radiator towards engine to allow the ic to go infront.
Best of luck

Brilliant thanks a lot...I will see what I can find in the scrapyard! How about the injection pump though - do i need to fiddle with it?

found this on e-bay. Lots of other similar items too.
I think there should be a device mounted on the injection pump that measures boost pressure and adjusts fueling accordingly. You might not need to adjust this.
Best way is to road test and adjust until there is just the slightest whiff of smoke under heavy acceleration.
