I have a problem with an a4 1.9 tdi cutting out when driven hard when the problem occurs the car will be hard started it will turn over for ages before going. the fuel filter was replaced with a new one.
The history of the car is that it was originally petrol and the running gear of a tdi se was put into it. the fuel tank an d lines are the original petrol ones but appeared to be the same. the vacume module behind the drivers wheel of the petrol model was removed go it is plumbed the same as the original diesel. i am wondering if there would be a difference in the size of the fuel lines even though they appear the same.
if injector cleaner or some other one of these products is added to the diesel it will run fine for the remainder of the tank.
Any one got any ideas all help would be greatly appreciated

This may be due to a vacuum being created in the tank by a blocked vent pipe, this would explain the hard to start after being driven hard and the fact you opened the tank to add additive release the vacuum again. Regards Peter

Thanks for the reply
The problem has been traced to a petrol fuel filter which was on the old lines and was not changed when the conversion was done

Blimey! Was the conversion cheap?
Sounds like a potential nightmare!!
