Which used automatics for our retirement?
We wish to replace both our cars in retirement for used models preferably with auto boxes. We desire a chain cam engine with some punch and comfortable seats for long occasional long distance 500 mile driving. I am long in the thigh and find seat squabs with much less than 20” depth uncomfortable. The primary car should also be flexible for local shopping trips.
I have been driving a fantastic 2003 Honda Accord Auto Tourer for the past 9 years for business and pleasure with total mileage at 93,000.
The only expense other than 3 sets of front tyres and two for the rear has been front discs/pads and one rear wheel cylinder. The tiptronic gearbox is a delight. I feel we should change this prior to the 100,000 mile mark. Although it may well go to 200,000 miles I would like a change. I am biased to Jaguar as an enthusist over 40 years and fancy a 2007-9 XJ or XK8 convertible for a second limited mileage car. Budget up to £20,000
My wife has inherited a 2009 Suzuki Alto 1.0 SZ3 5 door which neither of us like. Although very economical we call it the “bouncing box” as we feel tossed around with every wheel movement.
We have tried the Honda Civic 1.4 /1.8 I-shift models which have a dreadful “auto” box. The Honda Insight is a good option but fails the punch with only a 1.4 litre engine.
We prefer 4/5 door quality petrol car due to limited expected 7-8000 annual total mileage. Also chain cam engine with some punch ,reasonable mileage 35-40 mpg and comfortable seats. Budget to £12,000 I hear that Seat and Kia may be suitable? Can you advise us please?

KIA and Hyundai do 1.6 petrol models with 4 speed torque converter autos. Hatchback cee'ds and i30s and more upright Vengas and ix20s. SEAT's auto is a DSG an I'm not very keen on them. A nice little auto with long seat squabs is the Mazda 2 TS2 1.5 Activematic, available for around £12,000 new. 1,400 mile test here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/mazda/mazda-2-auto.../
