It passed however they said that the discs are warped - nothing visual but when they put it through their 'machine' it identified that the disc was warped.
Mileage? Has daughter noticed any juddering when braking, especially from high speed?
Discs are made of cast iron, so they don't 'warp'. What can happen is an invisible difference in smoothness developing on the shiny working surface causing judder. I had this on my Audi front discs and easily cured it by honing the surface with a carborundum wheel in my ancient black 'n decker. They are now smooth at 75,000 miles with new pads about 5k miles ago.
I suggested to her that as it passed its MOT it is Halfords looking for work rather than anything serious but as it related to brakes she is a bit worried
Agreed. No worries.
Any thoughts
With normal driving and occasional derusting with a hammer and old screw driver down the ventilation holes, front discs should last at least 80,000 miles. Ours always have done. I think the scam of advising replacement of discs and pads well before the end of their useful life has become so widespread that it is now considered normal practice.
