Does a Pug 106 Look 2 (98) automatic rear brake ( Bendix ) adjuster also deal with hand brake cable length, I get the impression it does not as they refer to hand brake cable adjustment ever 12K miles. If so is it the rear or front heat shield that has to come off. Thanks Peter

Peter, The handbrake does not auto adjust on the Bendix drum system. After checking the auto adjust for the service brake is OK, the manual adjuster is a 13 AF nylock nut under the handbrake lever. On the '98 106, no heat shields need to be removed - the Haynes book is incorrect. Access is a bit fiddly as the exhaust gets in the way.
A standard fault with this setup is that the handbrake levers in the drums seize where they pivot on the trailing shoe web. It is well worth having an occasional check, as this gives rise to all kinds of grief. GSF sell Bendix shoes, hub nuts and grease caps at reasonable prices.

The reply to your question on the GSF website is wrong. Bending the heatshield applies to the earlier 106.

Thanks 659FBE. When you say under the hand brake lever can you give me more information, when I looked on Sunday underneath the handbrake was all covered by heat sheild. Thanks Peter
