Basic replace-the-front-brakes question for my Corolla 2000:
Where would HJ readers get a complete front discs & pads replaced?
* Manufacturers dealer
* Kwik-Fit etc
* or buy manufacturers parts myself, and get local service place to fit ?
Are there any drawbacks to using \'non\' Toyota brakes parts ?

* or buy manufacturers parts myself, and get local service place to fit - this would be my choice because a) I have a Vauxhall Trade Club card and b) my neighbour runs his own garage. I've haven't been to Kwik-Fit in the last few years when they didn't try to tell me shocks, exhaust, brakes, tyres or a combination of these needed changing when I'd gone in for something completely different. When I was last there a distressed female motorist came in with a smashed windscreen and the manager sent out one of his bods to check tyres, shocks etc - not really what she needed at the time. They had to get someone else in to do the windscreen of course.

That's seems to be the problem with the fast-fit outlets - desperate to replace every part on your car they have in stock ...
A while ago I had an oil change done at one, and the mechanic informed me that there was only a couple of thousand miles left on my front discs.... several thousand miles later an RAC mechanic, who was freeing my stuck front brakes, told me there was about another 20k left in them ..... !!!

Note that this can be a problem with main dealers too. The fitters are often on commission ( mate's lad who's a fitter at the local Vauxhall agents picks up a few £k a year through 'selling' parts)
