OK, hardly VW Dieselgate territory

But then there was all that Unintended Acceleration jive a few years ago, which was decidedly fishy.

I don't know what it is with elderly Australians and moaning...

He couldn't engage low ratio, drove it to a dealer and they fixed it for free. So his entire complaint is that he was left a voicemail saying it would be $180 when, in fact, it was covered under warranty as you'd expect.

Dunno. No experience of warranty, never likely to have, and don’t much want any, but I would expect the default behavior to be to try and weasel out of it, which is what he alleges. (I think he is a Pom, wingeing or otherwise) One might expect a bit better from Toyota though. I understand they replaced a lot of rotted frames on US Tacoma’s which cost them a lot of money and isn’t typical of the sector.

Possibly the about face was because he has a YouTube channel and someone remembered.

Havnt checked the Cadogan link. He is Australian

In other news service receptionists arn't always up to date on all issues, communication is the issue with most of these things.

Case in point, at just over 3 years old the injectors on my Hilux started to rattle, well known issue with Denso injectors on the engines built up to 2008, ours was a 2007 model.
I arranged with the highly competent female service manager at the selling dealership to have the vehicle, they would read the injector values and if out of spec would replace them under goodwill, all authorised without question by Toyota head office.

When i arrived at the dealership a young chap was on the desk, he mentioned the vehicle was out of warranty and asked how would i be paying, i said there would be no charge as all under goodwill, he disappeared for a few seconds whereupon said service manager arrived saying there would be no charges whatever the results.
I have a feeling the young chap had come from another maker's dealer where the customers are there to be fleeced.

Went home in the free courtesy car and next day truck was ready to collect complete with set of new injectors etc, no charge.
Sold the vehicle 6 months later due to no longer needed for what it was bought for, many times we've regretted selling that, still keep and eye on it via the MOT history page, nothing to report there.

Is Andrew Australian? i always thought he was South African, wherever he hails from he's forgotten more about serious offroading than most will ever know.

Having googled, he is British but has lived in Australia for some time. He seems to be what's known as a haemorrhoid - once they come down they won't go back up again and they're a massive pain in the a***.
