Do you wash your car if you’re changing it - primus 1

Whenever I change my car for a new one I always wash and clean it before I collect my new car, don’t know why, as I suppose the dealer doesn’t care, but it’s just me, I like to show up with a nice clean car , before I collect my nice new clean car, does anyone else do this.?

If you mean for a PX, I get a mini valet before I take it to get an offer. After that, I don't clean it again, but I don't treat my car like a bin, so it's still fine a week later when I take it in to swap.

Definitely, as I always sell privately. I'll give it a quick polish and good vacuum, not to look like it's just come off a forecourt, but like it's been looked after.

I don’t mean when px,ing your car, the deal has been done and you are collecting your new one ( be it brand new or new to you) , I always wash mine if I’ve time on the day otherwise a couple of days before, it looks like it’s just me…??

I wouldn't bother. I would certainly make sure the inside is clear and hygienic, but it's going to get prepped so there's no point making everything shiny.

Sometimes wash it for an MOT, if it’s particularly filthy.

Carwash once every couple of months. Obviously if I was trying to sell it I'd do a bit more

I don't think any car of mine has ever visited a carwash. The car that lives outdoors may get a wipe-over after heavy rain ; the one in the garage usually gets one after one of its rare outings, especially if the lower parts have got dirty.

As for trading in - the last time that happened was nearly 15 years ago, so I can't recall what happened. Otherwise (as said above) I sell privately, so I like to hand over a tidy car.

I also submit a car (or truck) for mechanical work in clean condition, it'll be reasonably clean underneath too.

That's because people who get their hands dirty for a living, ie including mechanics, are as much deserving of common courtesy and respect as anyone else.

Spend a few minutes on ''Just Rolled In'' channel on youtube and you see some cars submitted to workshops that look like the business end of a refuse wagon.

Yes I do as well. Through the carwash with an underside wash and a vacuum out. I try to get it in the state I'd like it if I were doing the work.

I've only ever sold one car (px'd) it would have been clean and tidy as I just prefer my cars in a decent state. Other cars have got to the point where they had no value so were given away. It doesn't take long to put a hose and cloth over the thing, assuming a driveway is available.

I always hose down the underside of my cars whenever I (rarely) wash them, although they do get more attention when the roads have been salted. Pleasing to get the MOT tester say " thats the cleanest underside of a car I've seen in a long time".

Never sold a car, but the last one I scrapped I’m embarrassed to admit I cleaned first. It had been semi-abandoned for months and colonized by rats.
