GM to phase out Android Auto and Apple car play - expat

The initial plan is to do this with EVs however I expect they will try it with all vehicles if they can. The aim is to collect data (no doubt to sell to advertisers) and to sell subscriptions. Another attempt to get a steady stream of cash from the users similar to BMW heated seats subscription. No doubt the rest of the manufacturers will watch to see how this goes and whether they should try it too.

Google/Android operating systems are already installed in Polestar/Volvo and latest Renaults, there may be more that I haven’t come across yet.
To be honest, I haven’t used CarPlay much in these cars since the applications I use are native to the car.
Google Maps is built in, and integrated to the car, which means that it knows the battery state of charge and can plan charging stops accordingly, Spotify can handle music streaming without using my phone.
Renault have Waze available, like Google Maps it’s integrated with the battery and power consumption.
As more apps become available via Play Store, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay will become redundant in a car powered via Google.
They also have a browser built in, which means that, right now, I’m watching TV via iPlayer (parked, obviously).

Plenty of iPhone users won't be too happy about it all going Google though. I think it's not a good thing for GM to be doing so will be interesting to see if they stick with it or not.
