If the odometer is counting up in KMs and the speedo is showing MPH then all that has been done is that the speedo/rev conter face has been changed.IMO this is a cheap and nasty way of doing the conversion.
The original speedo head unit can be used by fitting an electric converter into the system, and a sticker placed over the KPH sign to read MPH.The speedo will now be showing 70 MPH when b4 it was showing 70 KPH.This also eliminates the top speed limiter and the odometer will clock up in miles.
With the speedo that is sticking i would think that the unit needs to come out and be re assembled properly,it has obviously not been put back together properly after having the cheapo face fitted.

Lovely car, the Prelude. I don't think you'll regret it once these simple glitches are sorted.
It's not clear from you post if it is indeed the Speedo, or the Odometer which is reading Kilometers. If it's the Odometer, that's fine and T Lucas has another nail/head interaction. If it's the speedo, then it needs to be changed to MPH as part of the SVA.
If you bought it from a dealer, it's their job to do this.
As for insurance, Tesco are really good for imports.

Thanks for your help on this matter..
I now think its just the rev counter stickin. Im in Watford so any idea where i can get this conversion done??
i bought the car private and feel ive got a great deal only paid £1500 and its got 71k on the clock.
Insurance woz cheapest at Direct Line so fanx Maz for Tescos. They were slightly dearer.
