2012 Focus 1.6 Ecoboost - Thoughts? - Adampr

Still looking for something a little bit lively to replace our electric Corsa and just came across a 1.6 Ecoboost Focus locally.

It seems to tick all the requisite boxes (apart from price, but that's how it is now..). Other than a few clutch issues, I can't see that they are poorly thought of and, 10 years and 60,000 miles in, I imagine anything fundamental would have reared its head by now. I think it will need a cambelt? Any other thoughts on these though please?

Nothing wrong with a Focus , but sadly the 1.6 Ecoboost engines are not reliable. They are notorious for overheating and coolant loss due to fractures/cracks in the cylinder liner bores . Ford have since redesigned the coolant jacket and water flow the the crankcase. Avoid.

Have you thought about Astra K 1.6 turbo from 2016?

It has 200 ps rather than the 180 for Focus. You get a newer car for similar money.

Astra has nicer interior focus slightly better to drive.

I agree, the Astra K (and J) is an underrated option. But assuming the £8k price mentioned in the pocket rocket thread applies here, that all but rules out an Astra K 1.6 turbo. There is only one on Autotrader within that budget with up to 70k miles (and no insurance write off's). Even if you up the budget to £8.5k and the miles to 100k, there is still only the one!.

How about the Astra 1.4T? 0-62 in 7.8s and 51mpg eg.

Or a Seat Leon with the 1.4 TSi in 140 or 150 PS form
