Would brake pads required to be replaced AGAIN in less than 4 weeks (580 miles)?

This is what I was told by garage:

  • The brake pads are required with the new discs due to existing brake disc condition (Pads used 500+ miles could prematurely wear/damage new brake discs and cause uneven braking/vibrations/warping/scoring)
I have never heard of this before.

The logic is the pads will wear to the disks but whether 580 miles would be enough to be concerned about I don't know. Why weren't the disks replaced at the same time as the pads 580 miles ago?

I had something like this happen. It was actually the calipers binding. They missed it the first time, then came up with some story that meant it wasn't their fault and I had to pay for new discs and pads again (and a little bit of grease in the calipers this time).

But, as Xileno says, surely they did the discs when they did the pads?

I am not sure why they didnt do the discs at same time. I am going back to ask.

I very much doubt that any brake material has worn away in 500 miles . Compare the new pads they want to fit to the ones already in the car .

Also does anyone know if I should have got a warning light on the car to say the discs or the pads required replacing (2018 Disco Sport)?

Or is this not always the case.

Thanks!!

The pads have low wear sensors that will bring on the brake warning light when the friction material is down to minimum.

Bovine excrement. What is the mileage? Front discs should last around 80,000 miles, pads around 40,000 - more if carefully driven.

Obviously the "experts" at JLR haven't heard of a sheet of 180 wet and dry on a surface plate. Half a dozen strokes up and down and you' will have removed any out of flat from the pads. What a useless bunch of t0ssers these so - called experts really are.

Anyone who owns a LR does not want reliability or cheap running costs.
