Citroen C5 Aircross or the new C4 (assuming a RR Cullinan is outwith budget!)

When looking for a Renault Captur we fist looked for one with deep profile tyres and found a red edition with 65 profile.

Brilliant ride , great 1.3 Turbo engine and believe it or not total reliabilty in three years of ownership enough to shock the biggest sceptic of French cars.

Even the main display has been fine .

Having test driven many SUVs before choosing ours, I can say that the Volvo XC40 is hard to beat. Better than the Audi Q3 we had previously although that had less road noise.

Avoid R Design spec and the "Pro" versions, which have 19" and 20" wheels (why?!) and the ride is excellent. The various motoring magazines seem to agree.

I didn't try a Citroen C5 Aircross but I believe these have a soft comfortable ride too.

The 3008 is also good but didn't quite have the suppleness and level of refinement of the XC40.

DS7 Crossback not bad but has silly big wheels which caused bump thump.

Worst of the ones we tried were the BMW X1 and Mazda CX5.
