Vauxhall Vectra elite 2.2 auto - Vectra c 2006 elite auto Gear Selector not working - Gurj Virk

Hi all I hope someone can help.

I have a Vectra C 2006 Auto elite 2.2

I started the car up today and went to put the car into drive, but was unable to move the selector out of park.

I then noticed there where no usual lights on the gear selector, the red brake pedal and P not lit up. I had to remove the ashtray and press the override yellow button down with screw driver and move the selector out of park and into drive. D comes up on the Dashboard but no lights on the gear selector. while driving I tried to use semi auto mode but nothing, car dash just displays D. After completing the journey, i put the selector into neutral, put hand brake on and turned engine off and pushed the yellow override button under ashtray and put selector into park. Does anyone know what the problem might be. Is there a fuse that controls the gear selector, or is it something else. The brake lights are coming on when i press the brake. but gear selector seems dead. no power.

DOes sound like electrical fault. Maybe a fuse gone or broken wire. Time for a wiring diagram and multimeter I think...

I've booked in at a garage next week. I am hoping it is something that will be easy to find. i know electrical faults can get quite costly if the fault is hard to diagnose. Would a faulty auto Gearbox ECU give similar symptoms. I am guessing though if gearbox ecu is at fault i would've had some kind of warning light come on the dash, which it hasn't. and when i use the override switch to take car out of park the may be gear change problems if gearbox ecu is faulty

I would check fuse #16 in the engine bay fuse box . Should be a 7.5 amp . This controls the auto shifter electronics .

Thanks for the reply but according to the manual the only 7.5A fuses in the engine bay are no.9 power steering and no.12 central control unit. No.16 is ABS and is 5A. I will also take a look myself tomorrow.

I checked fuse #16 and it is 5A and is ok. I checked the 2 x 7.5A fuses in the engine bay, both are ok.

I have checked all fuses, in the car. The engine bay, front passenger side, and the luggage compartment. and all fuses are ok. I tried disconnecting the battery for about 1hr, still nothing.

Looks like there may be a fault with the shift selector module or something else . More investigation required .

Google

An open circuit in the shift interlock electrical system can cause the shifter to become stuck in Park if the open circuit interrupts communications between the brake light switch or the ignition switch and the interlock solenoid. ... If power is present, the shifter interlock solenoid is bad.

There doesn't seem to be any power, as none of the symbols on the shifter are lighting up, when you turn on the ignition.

The brake lights and cruise control work fine as cruise control switches off when i tap the breaks, and break lights all come on when i tap the breaks including the LED strip in the boot lid

So My car went into the garage yesterday to diagnose the fault, and the fault was the actual gear shifter. The electronics where fine up to the point where it goes into the gear shifter unit it's self.

I have ordered another from ebay. It looks exactly the same as the one already installed on the car. But I was just wondering it says fits on a AF40 and AF33 gearbox, mine is a AF23, from what i have been reading, the differences between the AF40, AF33, and AF23 are the gear ratios, This shouldn't affect the type of Shifter should it?

Can’t see that being a problem. However you may find the shifter electronic panel is coded to the car , so it may not work out the box .
