Hi,
Most of the reviews say that this car is great for £6000 to £7000. Any problems with Daihatsu and or the automatic. 47 mpg average and 0 - 60 in 15 seconds. Very good, better than a lot from the class above.
Can anyone recommend Daihatsu?

Hi there - judging by your chosen nickname and the fact that you are looking for auto trans then I can't really help much.
You can find comments a page back on the thread I started - about sensible advice for a small car, the Charade was given a thumbs up by some BRers.
Daughter and I went and sat in one, and were impressed by the spec (base model £5,995 1litre, manual, petrol) but beware it only comes in red, unless you pay the £275 for metallic.
Despite its undoubted attributes we decided we'd rather have a second hand Yaris than the Charade new - that's just a personal opinion. Sitting inside it I felt quite vulnerable and more like I was in something that'd transport me around Disneyworld (that's without starting it up) I also got very irritated that it 'talks' to you (hello and goodbye) who the heck needs that?
Of course going for auto puts the prices into another league again :(
Dealer gave me a copy of the Auto car road test (manual EL)
For = price, space, equipment, ride, performance and economy
Against = steering, grip and roll
Conclusion 8/10
Can tell you more if you haven't seen it.
Without knowing more about you I can't be more objective than that sorry.
Have you driven one?

Hi hootie,
Not driven one, but have sat in one. They are a good size, but appear to be a little flimsy. I can buy a new manual yaris T2 for the same price as a base Charade. £6500 less free insurance.
However, on the Yaris do you have to rev them quite hard to pull off ? They have low torque etc. How easy is the base Yaris to drive 1.0, and are the diesel and 1.3 better bets?
I have a manual licence, so an automatic is not the only choice for me. But I want something easy to drive,. economy, safe etc.

Hi - I'd thought you were only interested in an automatic, sorry. Not driven one, but have sat in one. They are a good size, but appear to be a little flimsy.
That's what I thought, and so we didn't pursue it as far as a test drive. Wasn't over keen on the shape either.

All I can tell you is that I have driven an automatic 1998cc Honda CRV for the last 6 years (previously a 1.5 Civic LSi coupe, and an XR2i, both manual) so the car we have chosen was quite a change for me. It's not being delivered until 1st September, but it's a T3, manual, petrol, with the 998cc engine.
We were looking for a car suitable for our daughter to learn in, and this is what we chose given all our criteria. Safety came very high on the list, as did build quality. We were only looking at the 1 litre engines to keep the insurance down, so I can't tell you about the others. As you can imagine, fun and performance were not really on our agenda.
Despite the huge variations in the cars I've been used to and this one, I found it very pleasing to drive and as easy as pie - but that's me (Mr H also put it through its paces and approved) You have to bear in mind what we were looking for though.
I can only suggest that you take the time out to have a go in one or two cars yourself really. You wouldn't need all that time to get the feel of one.
(Oh and the only other cars I test drove were a VW Lupo and Polo - didn't car for either of them)

Sat in the Charade but not driven. Impressive equipment, size, but naff shape and seemed flimsy / lightweight. (maybe ok on the road)
In terms of the yaris you bought how good is that, what model is it? Is it easy to drive etc?

Can't really add any more than I've already said, sorry. There must be someone here who can advise you better than me, but they don't seem to be coming forward atm.
Hope you get sorted. Good luck.
