Online auction process not popular with the trade, many of the descriptions especially mechanical reports are lacking and difficult to make full assessment of vehicles online.

Heard of dealerships sending stock back to the auction house as vehicles are not as described.

On a wider point, it’s difficult for a car buyer especially in a trader role to purchase large volumes via the web.

Surprised BCA are still closed to physical auctions, it can be done with social distancing just needs the buyers to behave properly and use the seating area when bidding instead of congregations around the auction hall entrances.

I see industry unrest on cars not being as described, and they’re still selling for more than book prices.
On the new side, expecting to see July 2021 up on July 2020 for volumes, but it’s a crystal ball job to see further than that.

4 weeks ago, did a We buy any car quote for wife’s Cooper S convertible, vgc, 2012, 32k miles FMSH, leather etc. Price was £5745. Today price is £6660? Does this rise reflect summer demand or a lack of decent used cars? Or what?

A bit of both, I would imagine. There does seem to be a log jam of cars at auction houses, and the used car dealers have pretty much been trading contactlessly continuously during lockdown but unable to replenish stocks. And it’s apparently Summer....
