Yesterday AM I sent an enquiry to CarWow for a quote on a Toyota Corolla Sport Tourer 2 litre Design in white.

Yesterday afternoon I had received 6 quotes, that was quick. 5 were for the selected car, the other was for a used Sport Tourer 1.8 Excel in silver (actually the photo showing the quoted reg was black).

Sent them a message saying that was not the car I wanted, had requested quotes on a Sport Tourer 2 litre Design in white. They replied saying it was my fault having ticked the wrong boxes and it would help if I told them what i really wanted.

I replied stating that i had told them what I wanted in the previous e-mail and since 5 other garages had quoted on the correct it was clear to me that it was them not me who had made a mistake. They replied "nice not doing business with you".

This morning i revived an e-mail from CarWow confirming that the vehicle I was interested in was a Toyota Corolla Sport Tourer 2 litre Design in white and that they had offers for me to view. This confirmed that I had indeed selected the Sport Tourer 2 litre Design in white.

Then about 30 minutes ago I received another message from the garage discussed above offering me the used 1.8 yet again. Sent them a real blast this time but if they are so thick will it get through.

Question is, are CarWow actually worth trading with?

Question is, are CarWow actually worth trading with?

Unreservedly yes!

I bought the Kia Sportage 2020 via them end of february for 3rd march delivery.

Carwow provide the quotes, so once you see a car you want "Errors excepted" yo then correspond with the dealer via carwow initially, but you can then phone via their number or direct to the dealer and speak to the salesperson.

The only time i needed to speak with my excellent salesman at KIA Ebbsfleet was for registration number and final delivery date.

You don't pay carwow. you pay the dealer, but if you follow through and tell carwow your purchase details they will send you an choice of e-vouchers by email.

What worries me is since the dealer is likely to be possibly 150 miles away and all negotiations will be over the phone or by e-mail based on the above there seems to be a good chance of not getting what I want.

I have bought cars from dealers 50 plus miles away in the past but I have always met them face to face and done the deal reading through the paperwork carefully before signing. Never had an issue.

If you ask for a new white and they sent a s/h black, it really isn't worth getting annoyed or spending any energy on it. Just ignore them!

It sounds like am individual garage is trying to flog you something different rather than a problem with CarWow itself.

CarWow is really only like a search engine such as Google, a means to get in contact with dealers across the country and find out their best price without having to phone or visit them.

It might be worth reporting the dealer to CarWow. I suspect nothing would happen with one complaint, but if they are trying this for every search, thay dealer would probably get blocked in some way.

Its all immaterial now. Just been on Broadspeeds site and they have quoted £2097 less than CarWows best offer after their £199 admin fee is included.

Thing is, it it looks too good to be true it possibly is.

Suppose I will be taking the Broadspeed one to our local dealer and asking him to match it, worked for me before.

Bought 1 car 169 miles away,

Mg was grimsby 157miles

Kia was 70 ish.

No problem.

Just get them to email you an invoice. That is what it should be,

I also did a bit of sales in my time.

Be specific with your chosen dealer.

I Promise, it was as pain free as possible to be.

I said beforehand I would arrange GAP insurance myself, and there was ZERO HARD SELL. att collection.

Last two cars I bought no hard sell for GAP.
Last I heard GAP selling is to become the new PPI compo claim!

Its definitely not an issue now but a huge case of Deja vu.

Back in 2008 we were swapping the Focus and I fancied an Auris 2 litre diesel. Looked great value for money, bigger inside than a Focus and plenty of kit. Toyota were offering 24 hour test drives so I booked one and was given the contact name at the dealer. So phoned him to be told that they had sold all the demonstrators and would not be getting any more until after the 24 hour deal was over. So I contacted Toyota only to be told that dealers can do whatever they like and at the time they could not (or would not) book me with another dealer. So I bought another Focus.

Now to the past hour and armed with a decent CarWow price and an excellent Broadspeed price I contact my local dealer (not the one above, we have moved since) for a test drive and an appointment to discuss a deal. Tell them what I want and they tell me sorry, just sold the demonstrator and no idea when we will be getting another. But once they realised I was serious and would probably go elsewhere they offered to see if they could find us a car. 10 minutes later they ring back, he had made a mistake, they had not sold the demonstrator after all, its still on site, when did we want a drive. Date and time arranged, details of PX taken, told me we would have to take driving licences and passports, told him we did not have passports, said they were a legal requirement then he said he would ring back after he had found out if they could work round the requirement. 5 minutes later, bring 2 utility bills if no passports. So all OK, I thought. He then told me the test drive would be unaccompanied (they are currently?) and they provide a route. its about 4 miles in total 50% on urban 40mph dual carriageway, 50% on 70 mph dual carriageway with a option to loose 1/2 the 70mph part and drive through town over a myriad of speedbumps. I said that I could not make a decision based on such a short drive and would like to include a decent A road drive as well as some motorway, plenty of both within 5 miles of the garage. Told me it was illegal to test drive a car on a motorway and would not accept we have always asked and been given such drives. I told him we had a 48 hour unaccompanied drive earlier in the year in a Volvo and he all but called me a liar.

It was clear to me at this point I would get nowhere and said it was pointless me having such a short drive and would not take up any more of his time, his reply was "you have wasted my time already".

Nice people. Do they not want to sell cars now Covid is in retreat, they keep telling us to go out and spend and this is the reception you get.

Thankfully we have 2 good cars and do not need to spend but this garage like all businesses needs to trade and if they treat all customers this way they will go under.
