Hello,
I have a RAV4 I bought with an unusual noise. best described like an old cabble speedo drive with bad internals causing rotational noise with wheel revs, only much louder.
The noise is associated with wheel rotation, even coasting down hill with engine off noise is present, its coming from below the transmission tunnel towards the front.
I nitially though it was a nearside wheel bearing which I repaced.
inspected prop shaft and bearings all look ok.
I changed gearbox and transfer oils, all looked clean. no metals.
have replaced offside driveshaft and carrier with bearing, both front discs and pads.
The noise persists.
though about removing propshaft but understand it throws up ABS warnings which need coputer to reset at 60 pounds.
not sure what turns internally when engine off, dipping clutch makes no difference to noise, its speed related,
no obstructions on rotating components .
any ideas before ripping out transfer box.
could the clutch be dragging round by rear wheels driving transfer box?
thanks for reading, any help or ideas appreciated,
Mike,
