Jaguar XK - Cranks but won't start after a stormy night - whedonum

Hi folks,

I'd really appreciate your advice on the matter if you have a potential tip. This 2009 car was running smoothly with no issues. It was a very strong wind here last week, a storm. So at night I moved the car from the gates reversing slightly up the hill and parking sideways. Was a quick move, didn't let the engine run properly.

Next morning it cranks but won't start. Recharged the battery as the first suspect - no luck. Tried hacks with brake pedal and start button - same.

Attached you will find videos of the car starting and readings from the OBD port with OBD Fusion app.

Have some ideas what to do next, but would love to get your input first.

I suspect you've flooded it after the short run. With a fully charged battery, try cranking with the throttle fully pressed ( probably needs cranking for some time) and if you're lucky it should clear and start. If this doesn't work (it should), you may need to remove the plugs and dry them.

Hey Oli. It seems like it may have been flooded. I've called to this 24h hotline in UK and they didn't recommend to do the throttle trick. Do you know what's the risk? Oh, and also. Could cars of that year get engine flooded at all?

Will roll car off the hill today and try again, maybe it'll do the trick.

I would think Mr Oli is spot on with his diagnosis. This video is the sound of a fuel flooded engine . The 24hr helpline obviously have no idea about modern fuel injection systems . Full throttle when cranking puts the system into “clear flood “ mode . If you’re lucky , it will fire up . May be a little smokey or uneven to start with . If not it will be spark plugs out . No 5 min job on these .
