Citroen c5 2.2 Estate MK1 - Best oil to use for service? - Citroen C5 2.2 Mk1 - mkultra

Morning all.

Have a well maintained, C5 2.2 MK1 Estate and it's time for a service. Milage about 140k from memory on an 02' reg. So not been hard used.

Question is ... what oil to use? Fully Synthetic? Part synthetic and what rating please?

Having inherited it I know it has been immaculately maintained regardless of cost and serviced at least once a year but not 100% sure what oil was used .... evidence in garage suggests it might be part synthetic.

For our K11 Micra 1.0 and 1.5d 106 (both 94 year models) I use fully synthetic every time very successfully but not sure on the C5 ... I know the 2.2 is less well regarded than the 2.0 Mk1 model and so keen to check best options before start work.

Also any things to consider on service outside of the normal filters and oils?

Many thanks in advance

IMO don't get concerned with synthetic/part-synthetic/etc just concentrate on the viscosity and ACEA grade recommended by the car maker.

What do you think of this in the ECP sale right now? ....

Sorry won't let me past the pic .... it's Triple QX Fully Synthetic 5w/40W 5ltr .... normally £29.99 but with code £17.99 right now.

I think this is in fact what has been used in the past but keen to assess the very best option to keep things well.

Thanks

That oil is never £29.99 as ECP have a never ending mid month, end of month, payday, biggest ever, bank holiday, Christmas sale. Having said that I'm quite happy to use TQX oils in our older cars.

If this has the correct spec. I'd be happy to use this too at £14 for 5L.

For sure they do, but £17.99 for 5 ltrs seems ok value. As you say, if it's the right spec ... which is the main point for me ... to check it is the very best spec.

I had a 2001 2.2 Estate, it was one of the first models to be fitted with a DPF.

As far as I know all the 2.2's have a DPF as standard.

As such, you need fully synthetic LOW SAPS oil to avoid the DPF getting full of oil ash deposits.

Yes, like Dieselnut I had one of these that I sold at 140k miles. (It's a very nice car to have found yourself with, especially as you say it's been well looked after). The 2.2 diesel did indeed have a DPF from the word go and should have fully synthetic oil that meets the various standards listed in the handbook. Don't muck about to save a few pounds and there's a good chance it'll give plenty more years of supremely comfortable, surprisingly swift 'magic carpet' motoring.

By the way, I don't know about the 2.2 being less well regarded than the 2.0. I never drove a 2.0 so have no personal experience; however, the 2.2 did seem well matched to the big estate, with strong torque. It was not particularly economical for a diesel (I usually got about 44 mpg) so maybe that's what gets it a bad press. But, hey, it's a large car that does not hang about!

It would be hard to beat this, seeing as it’s a French car: catalogue.total.co.uk/en-gb/products/lkx-23/QUARTZ...0
