They told me it was group stock and quite often they move cars around.

I didn't think at the time this was an issue.

I wonder why a one-month-old VW Touran was for sale at a Volvo dealership - especially if the chain also has VW dealerships. Did they explain?

It's very common practice at Arnold Clark to see pre reg cars being sold at a different franchise within their network.

Car was registered to an individual at a private address in Essex. Looked on street view and its a flat in a residential street.

If they have broken the 3 month rule selling it via one of their volvo dealerships rather than VW does that affect me in any way?

As far as I know any preregistered car or demonstrator has to be three months old before being sold on.

However my current car had been registered to the Toyota dealer for only 15 days, when I took delivery of it. The log book recorded me as the new keeper, when the car was 15 days old. I bought the car from the Toyota dealer.

Having the car number prior to delivery (and having only paid the deposit), I checked the vehicle enquiry site and found that the car was on a SORN. Of course I had to tax the car at the dealers before driving away.

Maybe the 3 month rule disappeared when the buyer became responsible for taxing the car at the time of sale.

A previous 2004 Clio was 2 months old when I bought it, but the the dealer didn't advise me that the log book would only come through when the car was 3 months old. The log book recorded me as the keeper when the car was exactly 3 months old. The DVLA say that it may take up to a month for the log book to come through, so you're not aware what is happening until you have all the paperwork anyway.. These cars were sold with the balance of road tax remaining (can't do that now).
