VW POLO '06 1.2 LITRE - Humming noise from engine! **VIDEO INCLUDED** - Luke Drower

Hi Everyone! Hope someone on here can help....

I've had this high pitch humming/whistling noise coming from my engine. It happens when I accelerate at a certain point usually heard in the first 3 gears. (noise still is heard when pressing the clutch in) it is also heavily noticeable after switching off the engine as seen in the video.

I hope someone knows the issue, sometimes it's barely noticeable, sometimes louder and sometimes does happen at all, so I'm at a loose end with this one!

I would change the auxiliary drive belt as a first step and clean the pulleys. Presumably there is no tension adjustment and it relies upon the strength of a spring on an idler pulley

This sounds like air “moosing” . Seems to be worse when you have your foot off the gas and when switching off engine , conditions when engine vacuum is highest. I would check all air/ vacuum pipelines make sure there are no air leaks. Also check the oil filler cap is on securely.
