O.O. am I correct in thinking that this vehicle was powered by an air cooled flat twin boxer engine???

Saw one racing a few years back. Engine lid has to stay partly open to accommodate the unit if I recall correctly; as on one of the 'hot' NSU models.

YOu might find one of the Steyrs hanging around Middle Barton Garage in Oxfordshire occasionally. They specialise in Abarthised Fiats but I am sure I have seen them advertise a Steyr.

People can get confused, SP were Fiat 500 bodied, but with flat air cooled twin 660cc around 60bhp, very good traction I used to use mine for Production car trials. There was a Chap up in Berwick on Tweed who used a" Haffingar 4x4" - think I have spelt it correctly using the tuned 650 TRII/ TRIII in their day they would be on par with a Cooper 1070S. Three I new were all shipped out to Austrailia.

I have had various Fiat Abarths - the SP would run rings around a 500S/560S. I had 750TC and 850TC Fiat "600's" ALL with their boots raised !!

You mentioned NSU's had the 1200 TT which I used for sprints There used to be a chap called Peter Noad who put up some creditable performaces in 1000 /1200cc.
My late father had a Sports Prinz.w - has you may of guessed we liked Micro cars!!

I'm sure there was at least one at the Aircool show in Duxford last month. As well as Fiats, VWs, Porsches, Tatras, Panhards...

60 bhp out of 660cc? That's a screamer from a nat-asp engine! Standard power output was around 20 bhp?

The de tuned version (around 25bhp)is still fitted to the 3 wheeled blue invalid cars that you see around !!

650TR II sodium cooled valves HC head dual carb.
European hill climb sprinters used resleeved units out to 750cc
One of the hairy problems was the rear suspension pivot jointwhich were al lar racing car setup and bolted to the gear box - but any wear and you had OCCASIONAL rear steering !!

Steyr was to original designer for Audi q4\'s Dr F.Porsche used to work at Steyr - Apart from them making MOD 4 x 4 vehicles and guns.

A blue one with white stripes was parked outside the Harrod's business terminal at Luton aitport of Friday with Abarth badges. At leat I think ut was a Steyr. Had Steyer type wheels.

A light blue 500 with no stripes at the time was recently at auction and not sold for a great deal too much money.

I have been hoping to get info from oldoiler as to the ID of his car. I have had red, grey, and white Puchs and a yellow Fiat 500 that I converted to a Puch motor. That had Borrani wheels and may have had a colour change since then. I know the whereabouts of a red tr2, a white lhd tr2 and wonder if the oldoiler car is the one from Cambs, my old grey one or a different one, possibly Steel Blue.

Cheers DH
