Nissan Note 1.4 - Does the Nissan Note use a Renault CAT? - Starman999

Well my question is what the subject says! Does the Nissan Note use a Renault catalytic converter?

Why am I asking? Well long story but... I suffer from chemical sensitivity meaning that I react very badly to various fumes that a normal person would not notice at all. And said fumes can be in tiny quantities and still 'do me in'.

So... that makes buying a used car problematic. In some cars I'm perfectly ok, in others quite the opposite. Sometimes i don't know what i'm reacting to but my repeated experience is that french cats are generally more smelly than others when the car is starting from cold, which of course I want to avoid, given my uber sensitivity to such stuff.

Now the Nissan Note could be a good car for me but i know Nissan have merged with Renault so I am wondering if the Note uses a french cat. Anyone know?

No idea but since they don’t share engines (other than the 1.5 diesel) I’d doubt very much that that cat is the same. Try one to see if it suits but remember the later second gen cars aren’t anywhere near as well made as the original.

Car manufacturers don't make all the parts fitted to your car. Components like exhaust systems will be bought in from large external makers. You are likely to find cars of similar spec and build date to have an exhaust system supplied by different companies. So as for your French chat smell,,you will have to try it before you buy it.

If you can smell the CAT inside the car don't drive it, there is s serious and potentially deadly issue. Any smells from the exhaust should go out of the tailpipe and be left far behind, and smells getting into the car will without doubt mean there is an exhaust leak.

The only CAT you should be able to detect whilst driving is the one in the car you are following.

Thank you for the replies. Much appreciated.

Earlier today I viewed/drove a Nissan Note that I'm interested in and there was no hint of CAT smell - even to my abnormally sensitive nose! So that's one box ticked. Thanks again.

As per previous comment you should never be able to smell what is coming out of your own car's exhaust unless you are driving backwards or you have a hatch seal leak. However you do smell the cars in front. I have an issue following some diesel engined cars that have a major Woodbine habit and get annoyed with people reporting that they have deleted their DPF. Hopefully the new MOT will get these cars off the road.

Nissan Note - great car especially the pre 63 model change ones. The later ones aren't too bad either.
