Citroen Relay - Turbo not spooling up after egr cooler failure - will pope
Hi all.
I have a problem with a Citroen relay 2.2. The one with the transit engine.
Month or so ago the egr cooler failed and it flooded the engine. Garage it was recovered to initially though got it was head gasket but after removing head they discovered that wasn’t the case. Further investigation which involved removing engine completely resulted in finding the egr cooler had split. Engine was put back together after having head skimmed, valves re ground, block x-ray and pistons honed only to discover that the turbo was not spooling up on the test drive. No warning lights, no fault codes but the oddest thing is that when on the ramp, the turbo does spool, so in other words, it’s not working under load.
Garage have now held their hands up and admitted defeat. They claim to have checked everything but can find no reason for the fault. Oh also, the turbo was sent off to a specialist to be rebuilt and is guaranteed to be 100%.
Any ideas what the hell could be causing this? I’m at the end of my teather with it. It’s cost me a fortune so far and i dont seem to be any closer to getting it back.
Any ideas at all will be most helpful.
Thanks.

Transit or not it's still a Citroen,

have you had it on Citroen diagnostics?

French vehicles only seem to give reliable codes/data using manufacturers own systems.

No not as yet but it’s booked in next week. I have heard this somewhere else so thanks for confirming.

Yeah my local Snap On dealer left me an all singing dancing diagnostic scanner with scope!!

Had it on approval for a few weeks.

And much it his shock I handed it back.

The nonsense it came up with when plugged into anything French was jaw dropping.

Anybody using it would be led up the garden path and buy uneeded parts

Don't get me wrong,

on anything else it was a great unit.

But it didn't speak French!!

Turbo just seems that it's spooling up. Reving the engine will sin the tubo but no more than the air going in it and sucked by the engine.

Check turbo to see if the shaft hasn't split by any chance, meaning no conection turbo wheel-compresor wheel. Check turbo actuator to see if its not damaged. Check piping to see if you get vacuum. Check TCV-turbo controlve valve, if conected to wires, if pipes are coected corectly, if it recieves vaccume and finaly if it "sends" vacuum to turbo actuator.

Turbo itself has been rebuilt and guaranteed by the company that did it. I’m concerned that it has been fitted incorrectly.
I’ve got it back now as I’m not convinced the garage will find the fault. It starts and idles perfectly and revs up while stationary. In fact, when you drive it it seems ok in 1st but as you speed up it’s obvious something is not right. It’s like it’s in limp mode but with no warning lamps. It smokes a bit too. Not clouds of it but it’s noticeable.
Im going no yo have yo check all the pipes and connections myself but I’m not sure that I’ll find anything as I don’t realky know what I’m looking for unless it’s something very obvious.

I'll bet it couldn't speak Mitsubishi either - MUT3 seems to be exclusive to Mitsi.
