Ordered the Fabia - skidpan

Well its sorted, Fabia 1.0 TSi 110 PS SE-L ordered and should be with us by the end of May. As usual got a magic deal via Carfile.net. Thats the 3rd in just under 5 years.

A great little car but I hope you got a big discount because the near £16k list price is insane. I couldn’t believe it when I looked it up. How much are Carfile offering it at? It’s a serious contender to replace our Polo at some point and the 1.0 TSi would be the engine of choice.

With options its nearer £16500 but with the Carfile discount and £2000 PCP contribution its down to under £12500. Intend paying off the PCP soon after delivery and keeping the £2000 just like we did with the Leon and Note. There is also a £1000 test drive bonus which its possible we may get depending if the registration date is extended beyond March, our is expected late May. If we get it that will be very nice, if we don't its not like we are expecting it.

In comparison a Polo 1.0 TSi 100 PS i SE-L trim with extras is £17300 at crfile and a Fiesta EcoBoost 125 Titanium is nearly £16000 at Carfile. A Peugeot 208 would be near £15000 at Carfile. They make the Fabia look cheap.

That’s a good deal and an excellent car. Well bought, hope it does well by you.

Compared to a Golf GTI I bought new in 1989 its astonishing. Back then they had literally no kit, even alloys were extra and it cost about £11500. Looking at road tests of the Golf and Fabia the performance is remarkably similar. The Golf had 112 bhp the Fabia has 108 bhp but the Fabia has more torque, about an extra 30. Due to its lighter weight the Golf was faster in the pointless 0-60 sprint and both have the same pointless top speed of 119 mph.The in gear figure actually favour the Fabia because of its extra gear and extra torques. Size wise the Golf was about 1" longer but the Fabia is wider and taller.

This shows how cars have grown, we all think of the Fabia as a small hatch but its a big as a 30 year old car we considered to be a medium hatch.

Its shows just how lucky we are today if we buy carefully. I still think of the Mk 2 Golf as a good modernish car but in reality it could not hold a candle to the Fabia.

That Golf still actually exists. I last saw it in February 2016 at Tesco's. Done over 200,000 miles and needed some TLC. Owner planned to restore it but we have all heard that before. Car currently on SORN with no MOT.

That'll be a good pair of cars you'll have, Skidpan. Quite apart from the emissions issue, this new generation of efficient petrol engines is the ultimate reason why the majority of motorists don't need a diesel.

The Polo seems expensive even at Carfile: admittledly it was in December 2016, but we only paid a few hundred pounds more than that for the A1 1.4 TFSI. It's quite difficult to see what a Polo offers that a Fabia doesn't, assuming the same engine size.

Did not consider the Audi because the nearest dealer is simply not really convenient. Just looked at Carfiles price and for a 1.0TSi and a similar spec to the Fabia its nearly £18300 with no additional offers. But it does have nav as standard.
