12v and 6 v - Battery Trickle charger & Conditioner,plug in hook up - KenC

I am looking around to replace my 40 year old 12v 6v halfords charger with a modern compact battery conditioner that will deliver a 12v and 6v charge and has a plug in hook up facility.

I am surprised how very expensive some of them are eg £60 upwards and that they are only 12v. I have come across a brand called "Maypole" specifically model MP7423 12v 6v. Seems a reasonable price wwhen compared to the rest of the market and its duel voltage, with plug in hook up

Has anyone got one and what do they think of it ?

Aldi/Lidl do regular offers on a 12v/6v smart charger for under £15 - not sure what a "plug in hook up" facility is.

For around £60 you'd get a good CTEK.

I,ve seen the LIDL ones but they are I believe just crocodile clips. I want a plug in hook up (like the CTEK) I still think £60plus is excessive.

Has anyone any experience of the Maypole Brand Smaret Chargers ?

Just change the connectors on the Aldi/Lidl one!

CTEK use Tamiya model radio-control connectors.

CTEK now use a better connector that are black/orange.

I use Hella-type plugs and sockets on both motorcycles as I keep then on chargers over the winter. Go to a truck dealer or a motorcycle dealer, they are likely to have Hella plugs and sockets.

thank you for the genius suggestion. I am giving this some thought

my options are limited because I need 12v 6v option ( 6v for a classic motorcycle)

my only concern re doing this would be voiding the 3 year guarantee which LIDL & ALDI are famed for

Motorcycle battery conditioners from Oxford etc fit the bill and come with crocodile clips and plug options. Not sure if they are switchable voltage though.

I got a "Dr Bike" 12V conditioner from JS Accessories online (a large bike accessories clearance place) for £20 delivered for my bike, it does the job but is 12V only.

I have a Maypole 7A Automatic 12 volt battery charger, type MP7417 (7 Amp), which I bought from a local hardware shop. It says on the label that it's, "Suitable for vehicles with Petrol or Diesel engines up to 1800cc".

I'm quite happy with it and used it recently when I accidentally left the roof light switched on after starting the engine 20 times while carrying garden rubbish (ex a holly tree) to the recycle centre. Next morning the battery was down to 6 volts. Nothing worked ! The rubbish was piled so high inside the car that it must have caught the light switch and put it to On. I don't normally use that light so it took a while to find. In fact it the light hasn't been used since the car was new.

I put the battery on charge overnight - rightly or wrongly, still connected in the car - and it worked fine. That is a charger made for maximum 1800 cc used on a battery for an engine of 2547 cc.
