When sitting at idle, press the 'sport' button. On the screen should come up 'configure sport' for a few seconds if you've got adaptive (no idea what comes up if you haven't), you can then go into the menu and select whether drivetrain, chassis (if you have adaptive) or both (again, if you have adaptive).
I've got adaptive suspension on my 325d touring. It makes the ride worse, the suspension too 'jiggly'. My sport mode is set to drivetrain only.
EDIT : you could also check by going here : www.bmwvin.com , and entering the last part of your chassis (letter and last 6 numbers). That will then bring up the full spec on your car, which will show if adaptive suspension is fitted or not
