Well I'd dissable the brake light circuit by unplugging the switch or removing the bulbs and see if the fault still occurs.

If it does then it has to be in the brake light circuit,

if not....

On many cars the brake light switch is a dual function device.The brake lights may be working,but the second circuit that sends a signal to the engine control system may be at fault.

Seconded - most brake light switches have multiple contacts. Unplugging the switch/bulbs won't prove anything/may confuse things

Generally a cheap fix so worth changing anyway

[EDIT] Just looked up the part and it only has two contacts so ignore the above however there is a seperate ASCD switch (used by cruise control)

Oh the problems I've come across with these.

Ok so I disconnected the switch and waited for eml. Stamped brake and light stayed on.its adjusted all the way so the pin is as far into the switch as possible. Maybe this cars had this problem before and adjusting it has remadeed it. Either way switch ordered. By the way the wiring under dash area looks in good condition

Yea thanks I first unplugged one on right which I guess is cruise control inactive as iv not got cruise control anno change one on left must be brake as beake lihts never worked and eml didn't go out wen pressed brakes. Really hope changing the switch works I hate having a light on my dashboard. If it doesn't il take it to the garage
