Renault Clio II - MOT failures estimates? - Mr_whippy

Hi there, just had a few MOT failures, I asked the garage to give me an estimate but said they couldn't until they got the parts no matter how much I pressed. The following are teh MOT failures:

MOT failures:

1) Registration plate lamp not working rear

2) Front constant velocity joint gaiter deteriorated to the extent that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt etc offisde front

3) coil spring broken nearside front

4)Rear wheel bearing rough when rotate nearside rear

5) Suspension arm has excessive play in ball joint nearside front

6) Suspension has excessive play in ball joint offside front

7) Brake pipe excessively corroded offside rear

I was wondering if anybody had any slight incling what the damage could be as I'm a numpty when it comes to cars. Sounds like a hefty bill?

Looks like around 6 hours plus parts,

and they depend on where they're bought and what quality.

So quite a bill,

But your garage "ought" to privide an estimate before starting the work.

Not present you with a bill and expect payment.

Make it clear they dont have the go ahead without at least an estimate.

That's before they but parts and pull it to bits!

Yeah, I told him to give me a call before hand when he prices the parts but he can't even give me a ball park of hours needed or rough part costs :s

Depending on where in the world you are,this could be a fairly large bill.Possibly somewhere in the region of £4-600 .How old is the car?

I guess you have to balance out value of car,general condition,can you afford to change it?If it drives ok,then possibly a worthwhile fix.
